Report Overview

Methodology, data sources and scope of this annual report.

This report presents CryptoFox News's annual staffing and diversity data for the year 2025, published in Q1 2026. Staff figures are pulled live from our editorial database (cfnews_authors) and reflect all active contributors at the time of page load. Source diversity data is aggregated quarterly from reporter-submitted sourcing logs. Pay data is drawn from our semi-annual anonymous pay-equity audit conducted by an independent HR consultancy.

Scope of this report: All 12 active editorial staff are included. The cryptofox-team shared account and the Editor-in-Chief account are excluded from staff metrics to avoid distortion of seniority and experience distributions. Every role — from Senior Editor to Regular Contributor — is included on equal terms.

Methodology notes: Gender data is self-reported by staff on joining and reviewed annually. Geographic region is based on primary country of residence. "Non-Western sources" are defined as named expert sources based or primarily operating outside North America and Western Europe. The gender pay gap figure is adjusted — it represents a like-for-like comparison controlling for role level and tenure, not a raw median gap.

We publish this data openly because transparency is the only credible form of accountability. Numbers that look good are a floor, not a ceiling. Numbers that fall short are accompanied by a remediation plan.

Historical data (2024) is drawn from previous annual reports and internal records. Current-year data reflects the live database state at page load. Discrepancies of ±1 are possible if staff changes occurred after the audit date. Pay audit conducted March 2026 by Croner-i HR Consultancy.

Gender Balance

Distribution across all active editorial staff — live from the database.

Overall Gender Split

Women 5 staff (42%)
Men 7 staff (58%)
Women by Seniority Tier
Senior / Lead 2 / 4  (50%)
Reporter / Analyst 3 / 6  (50%)
Contributor 0 / 2  (0%)
0% women in the Contributor tier reflects the current composition, not a deliberate policy. Outreach for next cohort targets gender parity.

Women represent 42% of our active editorial staff — up from 33% in 2024. The Reporter / Analyst tier is now gender-balanced (3F : 3M). The Senior / Lead tier stands at 50% (2F : 2M), a significant improvement from one in three last year. The Regular Contributor tier has no female staff at present; our next open contributor call is specifically targeting candidates from underrepresented groups.

Europe accounts for 83% of staff (10 of 12). Our 2026 hiring plan specifically targets journalists based in sub-Saharan Africa, South and Southeast Asia, and Latin America to begin building meaningful geographic balance.

Pay Equity

Anonymised median compensation by tier (USD/yr equivalent, 2025). Adjusted gap = like-for-like, controlling for role and tenure.

Tier Staff (M/F) Median — Men Median — Women Adj. Gap Status
Senior / Editorial Lead 2M / 2F $87,000 $84,500 2.9% Gap Exists
Reporter / Analyst 3M / 3F $62,000 $61,500 0.8% Near Parity
Regular Contributor 2M / 0F $42,000 N/A No comparison

The overall adjusted gender pay gap across comparable tiers is 3.2%, down from 4.8% in 2024. The residual gap at Senior / Lead level is attributable to tenure rather than gender: our most senior male staff member has 10+ years on staff versus a median of 4 years for female senior staff. Targeted salary reviews are in progress; we expect the adjusted gap to fall below 2% by end-2025.
