Metal, a specialized settlement network designed for tokenized financial products, has successfully concluded its seed funding round. The investment was spearheaded by the global payments platform Airwallex and the venture capital firm Capital49. This initiative aims to address the growing demand for institutional-grade infrastructure within the digital asset ecosystem, focusing on the seamless integration of traditional finance and blockchain technology.

Institutional Infrastructure for Global Finance

The project was co-founded by industry veterans Loong Wang, the former founder of Ren Protocol, and Catherine Porter, who previously served as the head of partner relationships for the Libra project. Together, they intend to establish a full-stack infrastructure that supports the entire lifecycle of tokenized assets. Beyond simple transactions, the Metal network is engineered to natively support:

  • AI agents for automated financial decision-making and execution.
  • Advanced authentication and authorization protocols to ensure security.
  • Comprehensive compliance tools tailored for institutional users.

Global Connectivity and Strategic Partnerships

A critical component of Metal's value proposition is its extensive reach into legacy financial systems. The network provides on- and off-ramp solutions covering 200 countries and 90 different currencies, facilitating the movement of capital between fiat and digital formats. As part of the funding agreement, Airwallex has also joined as the network's first design partner, ensuring that the platform's architecture aligns with the practical requirements of international payment providers.

Tokenization involves the digital representation of physical or financial assets on a blockchain, which can include everything from stocks and bonds to real estate and commodities.

The launch of Metal comes at a time when financial institutions are increasingly exploring Real World Assets (RWA) and the efficiency gains offered by distributed ledger technology. By providing a bridge between decentralized networks and regulated financial markets, Metal seeks to standardize the settlement process for the next generation of digital financial instruments.
