PancakeSwap Proposes "The Flip" to Boost LP Fee Shares to 88%

PancakeSwap, a leading decentralized exchange (DEX), has unveiled a strategic governance proposal titled "The Flip", designed to significantly restructure its incentive model. The initiative, proposed by the core development team known as Kitchen, focuses on increasing the revenue share for liquidity providers across its ecosystem while simultaneously tightening the supply of its native token. This transition marks a shift in the platform's long-term economic strategy to prioritize sustainable liquidity over high-emission incentives.

Fee Restructuring and Cross-Chain Expansion

The core of the proposal involves a substantial adjustment to the distribution of trading fees generated by PancakeSwap v3 and Infinity liquidity pools. According to the plan, the proportion of fees allocated to liquidity providers (LPs) will be increased to 88%. This adjustment is intended to be applied universally across all 11 supported blockchains where the DEX currently operates, including BNB Chain, Ethereum, Arbitrum, and Polygon zkEVM.

By elevating the fee share, the protocol aims to remain competitive in the increasingly crowded automated market maker (AMM) landscape, ensuring that market makers receive a larger portion of organic trading volume revenue.

Reduction in CAKE Token Emissions

To balance the increased fee distribution, "The Flip" proposes a drastic reduction in the daily issuance of the protocol's native asset. The proposal outlines the following changes to the CAKE emission schedule:

  • The daily effective emission rate will drop from 22,500 CAKE to 7,000 CAKE.
  • This represents a total reduction of approximately 69% in new token supply entering the market daily.
  • The strategy aligns with the protocol's goal of achieving a "ultrasound" deflationary model for the CAKE token.

Governance Process and Community Feedback

As of October 14, 2026, the proposal is in the community discussion phase, allowing stakeholders to review the technical implications of the shift. Following the feedback period, the plan will be moved to a formal Snapshot vote, where CAKE holders and stakers will decide on its implementation.

The Flip aims to optimize the balance between rewarding our liquidity providers and maintaining the long-term value of the CAKE token through reduced dilution.

This governance move follows a broader trend among DeFi protocols to move away from "liquidity mining" reliance and toward sustainable fee-based models. If approved, the changes will significantly impact the yield profiles for users providing assets to PancakeSwap's multi-chain pools, potentially shifting the competitive dynamics within the decentralized finance sector.
