$16 Million for CryptoPunks NFT

Someone has just spent $16 million in Ethereum on CryptoPunks NFT, marking the second-largest transaction for a CryptoPunk to date.

For an astronomical 4,500 ETH – worth $16.03 million at the time of sale – an Ethereum user, whose identity remains anonymous, acquired CryptoPunk #3100 shortly after 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time. The user's wallet was created just four days earlier and was solely used for NFT purchases.

CryptoPunk #3100 is one of only nine Alien Punks in the entire CryptoPunks collection, consisting of 10,000 pieces. Due to their rarity, Alien Punks command some of the highest bids ever recorded for individual CryptoPunks. The most expensive CryptoPunk ever sold, #5822, was an Alien Punk purchased at the peak of the NFT market in early 2022 for nearly $24 million.

The anonymous buyer of CryptoPunk #3100 attempted to acquire the coveted NFT for several days. On Thursday, they made an offer of 4,250 ETH, worth $14.78 million at the time, to the then-owner of the NFT. However, this hefty sum proved insufficient to finalize the transaction; on Friday, the individual withdrew the offer, only to ultimately submit a more generous proposal of 4,500 ETH the same morning.

Cryptocurrency enthusiasts on Twitter hailed this incredible purchase as a clear sign of the bull market's return.

This promising signal of cryptocurrencies returning to the dizzying heights of the 2021/2022 bull market comes just days after last week's incredible rally of Bitcoin, which saw the world's leading cryptocurrency steadily gaining thousands of dollars in value day after day, bolstering a mood of frenzied optimism among cryptocurrency enthusiasts. This momentum also led to Ethereum's value surpassing $3,500 for the first time since early 2022.
