Tron's Role in Illegal Transactions:

According to a report published by the analytical firm TRM Labs, the Tron blockchain is responsible for as much as 45% of illegal cryptocurrency transactions in 2023, as reported by the South China Morning Post.

Associated with the controversial entrepreneur Justin Sun, the Tron blockchain is gaining popularity among drug dealers, although Bitcoin still remains the leader in this category.

Tron is becoming increasingly attractive to criminals due to its speed and low transaction fees.

The report indicates that Tether, the most popular stablecoin, accounted for over $19 billion of illegal transactions. Approximately 1.6% of the total volume of this stablecoin was associated with criminal activity.

The Tron-based USDT token, introduced in March 2019, has become the primary choice for financing terrorism, according to TRM Labs.

According to data published on the Tether website, Tron-based USDT has a market capitalization of $54 billion, making it the most popular stablecoin on the blockchain. Ethereum-based tokens rank second with a market capitalization of $49 billion.

Tether believes that the volume of illegal transactions involving its flagship stablecoin has been exaggerated, according to a company spokesperson.

A recent UN report also identified Tron as the preferred choice for criminals. However, Tron DAO stated that such accusations are imprecise in its statement, arguing that it "actively collaborates" with blockchain tracking companies. It was added that it is "erroneous" to assume that those who use the technology can be directly controlled.

In summary, the TRM Labs report reveals that Tron plays a significant role in illegal cryptocurrency transactions, which may pose a challenge to the reputation of this blockchain and its creators. Tron DAO's response to these accusations suggests that the company is committed to combating crime on its platform, but controlling users may be difficult to achieve in the context of blockchain technology decentralization.
